You Can Be Part Of The Story
A well looked after garden is always nice to look at. I recently discovered a tourist attraction which has created new meaning to the art of gardening. This place is amazing, and sits amongst wineries in the famous Hunter Valley. It is appropriately named Hunter Valley Gardens.
Here is their austere Border Garden:
As soon as I found out about this place I was determined to get there. There is no public transport out there, so the only way is via a bus tour (which don’t specifically go the gardens themselves, but to the village next door. It’s an easy 8 minute walk though) or car.
I decided to go for the bus tour option. I had just over an hour to ‘enjoy’ the place - which meant I was madly walking around taking photographs. It was a little disappointing that it was an overcast day, but then it also meant that the sun wasn’t casting harsh shadows. Here is the Sunken Garden and the stunning colours of the flowers, which were probably enhanced by the dull ambient light:
This is such a great place - to photograph, have a picnic in, and generally enjoy the atmosphere of nature. I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time here and would go again. There are about 16 different garden areas, and all have something special to offer. These photos were taken in late March, which in the Southern Hemisphere is leading into autumn, so there were still some great colours to be seen.
One of the largest gardens is the Storybook Garden - a great place to take the kids. My personal favourite story from childhood is Alice in Wonderland, and it is depicted here in a great lifelike way:
There are even some empty chairs, so anyone can be part of the story!
