Wine Tasting

Wine tasting can be considered an art.  Likewise, the winery itself can also be a work of art.  Recently I visited the Hunter Valley in Australia, just over an hour north of Sydney.  It’s a beautiful region and full of diversity.

Take two of the wineries as an example - one is ultra modern, and the other captures the atmosphere of an Italian villa….

Here is the more modern winery - all sleek lines and a chandelier hanging from a metal ceiling:

Designed for volume, this place is relatively sterile (apart from the chandeliers, which oddly enough look like they belong in the metal environment).  This is the relatively new Tempus Two winery:

Now, as a contrast, if you want to feel like you’re in the hills of Tuscany, sampling beautifully and lovingly craft wine, then Irongate is the place for you.  They even grow all the fruit they use in their wines, and everyone you speak to has a sense of pride about the vineyard and their work.

It’s great to see such variety.  Other wine regions in Australia that I’ve visited don’t seem to have this degree of variety.  It’s a fun way to get outdoors, see some beautiful scenery, and sample some delicious wine and food - with the aid of a driver of course :-)
