Wedding Photography Locations

For most people, their wedding day is one of the most important days in their lives.  Understandably then, the photography plays a huge part in that.  It’s important then to choose where you take the photos.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I generally scope out the location before the day.  For the last wedding I photographed, here is one of the locations, and a great stroke of luck for the day itself…

There is an old part of Brisbane which has been the seat of local government for decades.  Recently, the Old Government House has been restored and opened to the public.  It’s a grand old building and perfect for portrait wedding photographs.

The close up portraits ended up working really well next to the sandstone, and the pillars and archways really gave the photographs an old world romantic appeal.  Plus, an added bonus was that the sandstone reflected a lovely tone on the skin of my subjects.  Put someone next to a tree and it looks quite cold, but next to warm colours, the whole photo looks warm.

On the actual day you make use of the ambient light and any weather glitches.  It can also work in a positive way - in this case, there was a great old Rolls Royce strategically parked outside Brisbane’s Parliament House.  It was for another wedding party who were getting photographs done nearby, but we took the opportunity to use it as a backdrop for the bride and groom.
