Photographing Animals
What it is they say - never photograph animals and children? Well, children seem to respond to the same stimuli over and over (within reason), yet animals are less predictable.
Here are some ‘interesting’ casual family shots where I’m trying to get my dog facing the camera…
Here is the first try. It’s also difficult when there’s no one physically ‘behind’ the camera to distract your pet into looking towards the camera.
So, obviously that photo wasn’t ideal. My dog is generally not camera-shy, but she really didn’t know what was going on, or what we expected of her.
Here is the next try - if they won’t do it ‘naturally’ - use force - that’s my mother’s motto
By this stage it was really difficult to keep a straight face. Each time Mirabell wouldn’t ‘behave’ for the photo, we burst out laughing.
Finally, after quite a few other photos, which I won’t bore you with, we finally got the shot. Granted, my dog looks really bored and completely over the whole portrait thing, but at least she’s looking at the camera.
So, the recipe is: a tripod, patience, and most importantly - a sense of humour.
