Emily Bay is indeed a great place to swim. It depends on the type of beach you prefer though. I grew up with the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane) less than an hour away, so am used to those types of beaches. Emily Bay is a very protected swimming beach, which is great for kids and for snorkelling, and you're right it is beautiful.

You must be kidding when you say that Norfolk Island doesn't measure up for swimming beaches.
Emily Bay (the Islands main swimming beach) must be the most underrated beach in the world. it is absolutely breathtaking on a clear sunny day. it is easily accessable with island families camping down along the sand dunes during the summer just to make waking up and going for a early morning swim that much easier.
it's in my world's top 10 beaches for sure.
