Hawaiian Monarchy
On a recent visit to Oahu, Hawaii, there was a bit of a grey day, so I decided to explore the history of Hawaii in downtown Honolulu. The first stop was a glimpse into the Hawaiian monarchy.
No photographs were allowed inside the palace, but it was beautifully crafted and looked just like the European palaces that I’d seen, which was a surprise for this tropical island.
I found out that the Hawaiian monarchy was very well educated and travelled overseas extensively, hence their adoption of European architecture. Here is a better view of the front of the palace.
In terms of size, it’s quite a small palace, with the downstairs as the living area, and upstairs only 5 bedrooms, 1 of which became a prison for the queen when she was accused of conspiring with radicals.
It’s a wonderful place to visit if ever you get to Honolulu. The locals have preserved it beautifully.
