Funky Backgrounds
Photoshop is a fun program to use for editing photos. It can also be an incredibly frustrating program. This post is only semi-related to photography, as I was recently trying to create a funky background for another purpose. During this process I discovered a way of making some great, different backgrounds to put photos on.
Keep in mind that this experiment wasn’t meant for a portrait, this is just to illustrate my point…
Following some great YouTube instructions, I managed to create this background, which I think is pretty funky:

It was actually remarkably easy, and didn’t even require all that much layering. It’s a good way to get out of your “creative comfort zone”. I tend to do the same sorts of things in Photoshop; using techniques to do similar things. I’d used the tools listed in the video before, but not in this way, and not altogether. This may sound a little sad, but it was fun.
Bringing this back to photography, here is what a background like this can look like with a portrait over the top:

This isn’t quite in the vein of scrapbooking, but it would create an interesting result for business cards, or even a photo album.
So, think outside the “box” and create something new
