Finding Photographic Inspiration
The daily grind can be just that - a grind. There isn’t always something interesting to photograph, and running around on the weekend getting things done that you just didn’t get time for during the week, doesn’t leave much time for anything else.
So, this weekend, instead of trying to find something to photograph, I looked back on some snaps from previous trips that brought back nice memories…
Travelling around Tasmania - Australia’s southern-most state, is one of my favourite past times. I’ve been down there so many times, and each visit brings somewhere new to explore.
The best thing to do is hire a car and just pick a road and follow it, as guaranteed it’ll lead somewhere visually stunning (one time I ended up at an enormous dam, which was at the end of a very long, empty road - definitely worth the trip!).
One such trip brought me to Marakoopa Cave, Mole Creek, in Tasmania’s northern centre. Heading into a “low light zone”, I was all ready with my lightweight travel tripod, to get some moody shots. But, at the cave entrance I was politely asked to leave my tripod and collect it on the way out.
I was pretty disappointed, as I really wanted to get some sharp photos. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way (a very over-used cliche, but appropriate). The cave path had a metal railing, which I balanced my camera on, selected the aperture and shutter speed in M mode, then set the timer and away she went!
One problem with photography, is that cameras don’t quite capture what the eye sees - not in its entirety. Creating an acceptable substitute is what we all aim for.
Here is another photo I like - taken in Melbourne. I love flowers, and this flower vendor reminded me of the flower district I’d visited in Paris, many years ago:

And last, but not least, is a photo I took while exploring the McLarenvale wine region outside Adelaide, Australia. The countryside it gorgeous, and I love to just drive around, and see where I get to.
This estate is a well renowned wine label and their aptly placed red roses at the cellar door was a nice (if not slightly corny) touch:
Well, that’s it for the selection this time around. Hopefully I can find something interesting to photograph soon
