Colours of Hawaii
Hawaii is blessed with many things - one of which is beautiful scenery. There are also so many colours everywhere, even breaking up a normally dreary city skyline.
Firstly, there’s those manmade moments where you think to yourself, “I wonder what I would look like as a pineapple?”…
Well, maybe I could go on a diet, but it’s a colourful photograph that you have to take when at a tourist destination!
I love colour, so when there is an explosion of colour right in front of me, I feel compelled to capture it. Here is a large group of carp in a pond at the Dole Pineapple Plantation who were pretty hungry!
They seemed a little out of place here. When I first saw carp in a large group like this in Seoul, South Korea, it seemed to make more sense…
One of the best colours in Hawaii is the colour of the water - translucent blue, just off the coastline. It’s spectacular on a sunny day. I went to a few beaches around Oahu, but my favourite was Waimanalo Beach, on the eastern side. It was quiet, had a beautiful park next to it, and it just felt relaxing.
Another must for any visitor to Oahu, is to climb Diamond Head. The view from the top is fantastic. You see the metropolis sprawling below you, and the beautiful water, plus you see the crater of a dormant volcano. It’s a bit of a trek to get up there, but most of the way it’s an easy grade, and if you’re not scared of heights it’s really worth it. It takes anywhere between 20 minutes and 40 minutes one way.
The colours of Hawaii are incredibly varied, and these are just of one island! Definitely pack a telephoto lens and a polarising filter though!!
