Challenge of Rainforest Photography

Landscape photography seems infinitely easier than portraiture.  However, there are some locations that just don’t ‘cooperate’ - rainforests being the worst offender.

I love going bush walking and rainforests are extra special with their waterfalls.  The light that breaks through the trees doesn’t make for an easy subject…

Here are some photos I’ve taken recently.  The first one turned out a little better - the day was overcast and this was as the sun began to go down.  Plus, I used some fill flash to brighten things up a bit.  Imagine if there were mist…

This one didn’t turn out quite so well.  I would have needed an ND filter, and for the sun to go behind a cloud to get any kind of improvement.  The image just looks flat.

It takes practice, patience and a bit of luck for rainforest shots.  Next time maybe I’ll try getting out of bed early in the morning and getting some (hopefully) mood, misty photographs…
