Auto Wreckage Art

Imagine walking along a well populated inner city street, in a world famous city, and seeing a giant rock on top of a car in the middle of the road.  The rock has landed right in the middle of the car’s roof and would have either seriously injured, or killed the occupant of the car on impact.

As soon as I saw this scene, but heartbeat began to increase rapidly and I ran closer to see what had happened.  I came to a jarring halt when I realised it was the centrepiece of a roundabout.  It was art!  Apparently there are street signs warning people that this is in fact art, but I didn’t see those.  I was only concerned for what I thought was real.

This is in Sydney’s Rocks theatre district:

Again, this is why it always pays to have a camera handy.  This is a great subject - with the somewhat dreary colours of the bitumen road and rock walls - the red car really stands out.  Here is a fun effect that makes the red stand out even more:

The artist’s sense of humour - painting a smiley face onto the rock.  At least it’s attention grabbing!
