Along Came A Swan
Photographing sunrise and sunset can be extremely rewarding for landscape photography, so imagine my surprise when two black swans came ‘gliding’ into my frame!
Here is what I was photographing:
One of the things I love about winter is the sun rises later. It also sets earlier which is a bummer, but at least for sunrise photos it means I can get up at a decent hour - like 6am…
I’d never seen this lake so still before, so I wanted to get some shots of the reflections while they were there. During the day, many people kayak, or drive boats, or even just the wildlife flying in can ruin that perfect aqua stillness.
Here is the shot I got just before… Notice, you can already see some rippling off to the left hand side.
So, a few seconds later, this is what I saw:
These brazen swans ended up gliding right to my side, in the hope of some food I imagine. I’m guessing the locals like to feed the wildlife, so they no longer feel as scared about coming right up to the riverbank.
Whatever the reason, it was a fun addition to my photos. Right place, right time…
