A Rooster at the Beach?

Now this was a really odd sight, and one of those moments you really want to have a camera handy!  I’m not sure if this is a normal occurrence for other beaches around the world, but growing up near Australia’s Gold Coast, I have never seen any kind of fowl at the beach.  Yet, at Hawaii’s Hanauma Bay, that’s exactly what I saw…

Rooster at the Beach

This ‘guy’ really strutted around like he owned the place, and was often being followed around by a harem of chickens, not to mention the occasional 4 year old boy.

He wandered around like it was nothing at all to be surrounded by dozens of snorkelers and sunbakers.

Apparently the rooster and his chickens are attracted to the area by the scorpions that they catch!  Not a particularly calming thought that there are scorpions nearby, but at least the place is safe with Mr Rooster running around…

Here’s an indication of how close he came:

It was definitely a unique sight!
