Photographing Rome

The Eternal City.  This bustling European city was once the centre of a powerful empire, and the amazing thing is that there are still so many reminders.  Ruins are everywhere and the buildings still standing are surprisingly well intact, considering their age.

I spent almost a week in Rome, roaming around the streets in the heat of summer and stopping every afternoon for a mandatory strawberry (fragola) gelati!

Photography and travel - they are a perfect match!

It can be a little overwhelming travelling, carrying equipment, keeping an eye on your surroundings, and if you have kids, keeping 3 eyes out for them (don’t forget that one in the back of your head…).

Organising Digital Photo Files

This may seem like a slightly odd topic, but if you pick up that camera and really begin using it, you’ll find yourself with hundreds of files. Not to mention hundreds of Megabites, and in my case, Gigabites!

Here I’ll give you some tips I’ve found to be extremely useful in managing an ever-increasing mass of photo files, and some of the ways you can externally store your photos.

Converting Colour Images to Black & White

The fantastic thing about digital is that it’s so flexible. If you’ve taken all your photos in colour and decide that some might look better in black and white - that’s very easy to change. All you need is a little know-how and some practice.

Well, in this example, this photo is going to become black & white with just a few mouse clicks!

Calibrating Your Printer

Once you’re happy with your photo, you might like to print it on your home printer. Although your monitor has been calibrated, it doesn’t mean your printer will produce the colours you’re seeing on your screen.
